History

Introduction

The quest to document the original history of the Bakuusi clan began in earnest in the last quarter of 2023, when a committee to this end was formed following a resolution of the Special General Meeting of the Clan held on 19th August 2023 at Pap John Nyisia's home in Chesamisi. Previous attempts to write the Clan history were efforts of either individuals or families, but such efforts did not have a majoritarian mandate..

Bakuusi, the clan, bestows upon us an identity in Kenya amongst the Bukusu, a subtribe of the Luhya Nation. The clan history will, besides fostering unity amongst Clan members, not only help us appreciate our past, but will also highlight to us our development at present and the reasons responsible, and hopefully provoke us to desire a better future for ourselves and our descendants after us.
